HW group Light 1Wire-UNI

Simple light intensity sensor for indoor use. The sensor is designed for use with Ares, Poseidon, and other HW group products. Connects to the 1-Wire UNI bus (RJ11).

Typical applications include distinguishing day from night, or detecting the presence of people in a server room (light is turned on).

Each sensor is identified by a unique serial number. Several sensors can be connected in parallel to a single RJ11 port.

Usage examples

• Connect the probe to a Poseidon unit and receive an e-mail every time someone enters the room (and turns on the light) or leaves (turns off the light).
• Connect the probe to an Ares unit for indicative monitoring of photovoltaic panel illumination.
• Can be used for simple detection of access to a cabinet.
• Poseidon makes the illumination intensity accessible through SNMP, Modbus/TCP, or other protocols.

Examples of sensor connections

Star topology – up to 60m + T-Box


• Sensors can be connected in parallel using a T-Box or T-Box2 splitter.
• Total wiring length should not exceed 60 meters from an active port.
• Combined temperature+humidity sensor appears as 2 different sensors with two different IDs.


Daisy chain – up to 60m


• Some sensors feature a RJ11 connector for daisy-chain (serial) connection.
• 3m connection cable is usually included.
• Total wiring length should not exceed 60 meters from an active port.


4 active ports – 4x 60m


• After autodetection, sensors cannot be moved between individual active ports. When a sensor connection changes, autodetection needs to be re-done.
• Total wiring length should not exceed 60 meters from an active port.
