  • Web client: IP WatchDog2 periodically checks the availability of a given web page or web server (web watchdog)
  • Web server: IP WatchDog2 waits for a request for its internal web page
  • RS232 Rx: IP WatchDog2 waits for a sequence of characters in the RS-232 data stream (rs-232 watchdog)
  • Output channel: DO relay output (NO/NC, 230V/16A AC)
  • Sound output: Yes (internal)
  • Data logger: 200 records
  • Reaction to detected outage: Email, SNMP trap, HWg-Push, relay contact, audible alarm
  • Text messages (SMS): Alarms can be sent as text messages (SMS)
  • SMS-GW support: Text messages can be sent through a HWg-SMS-GW
  • Locally sent SMS: RS-232 port can be used to connect a GSM modem
  • M2M communication protocols: SNMP, XML, Modbus/TCP, HWg-Push
  • Operating temperature: -30°C to +75°C (-22°F to +185°F)
  • Mechanical: 145 x 90 x 45 [mm] (wall-mountable, fits on a DIN rail)
Detects device outage or unresponsiveness. In case of outage, restarts the device automatically without human intervention. Up to 10 devices can be monitored.

Monitors device availability over LAN (PING/WEB) or serial line (RS-232)
IP WatchDog2 periodically checks the function of monitored devices (by transmitting or receiving an “I´m alive and OK” signal over LAN or RS-232). If the correct reply is not received in time, the device is restarted using a relay. Everything is automatic, without additional software or human intervention.

IP WatchDog2 Industrial monitors the availability of up to 10 devices. When an outage is detected, WatchDog2 reacts by power-cycling or restarting the device using its two output channels (relays). Other possible reactions to outages include sending an e-mail or a text message (SMS), or activating an audible alarm.

The industrial version of IP WatchDog2 includes a serial port (RS-232) that enables monitoring the function of machinery or connecting a GSM modem for sending text messages (SMS). Industrial applications can benefit from DIN rail mount and output relays that can directly switch 110/230VAC, max. 16A.

  • Monitors up to 10 devices, provides 2 relay outputs rated at 110/230V / 16A
  • 5 methods of monitoring
  • RS-232 for monitoring machinery or connecting an external GSM modem

Usage examples

  • Restarting a router / switch
Every minute, a PING request is sent to the main and backup servers. This ping monitoring allows to perform an autonomous restart. If the connection fails, the power for a router / switch / WiFi AP (Access Point) is interrupted for a few seconds - the product acts as a ping relay.

  • IP camera monitor
Monitors the accessibility of the web interface of an IP camera (as a web watchdog). In case of outage, the camera is restarted, or an alarm output is activated (e.g. in a security system).

  • WiFi AP device monitor
Keeps checking if the network connection at a remote site works. In case of an outage, the WiFi router is automatically restarted. In addition, the IP WatchDog2 web interface can be used for a remote reboot of the router, as a remote power switch.

  • Monitoring / restarting the PC in an information stand
Monitors the function of a PC in an autonomous information kiosk consisting of a PC with a touchscreen. If the monitored PC does not send an “I´m alive” signal (ping heartbeat or request for a web page), IP WatchDog2 alerts the operator or performs a remote reboot of the PC.

  • Network watchdog – connectivity monitoring
Logs Internet connection outages, switching to a backup link if necessary / monitors the connection to a network. Use the product as an internet monitor - network monitoring relay.

    • Activation of a back-up link
    • Outages are signaled by a built-in audible horn and by closing an output relay
    • Outages are logged to the internal memory
    • SMS alert can be sent over a local GSM modem

Signaling the outage of one device out of a maximum of 10
  • Every minute, a PING (ICMP) is sent to 4 configured devices.
  • If one of the 4 monitored devices fails, IP WatchDog2 switches a relay output (warning light), or sends an e-mail / SMS.

Monitoring the function of a machine (RS-232 WatchDog)
  • Detects the correct operation of machines and devices by the means of an incoming RS-232 string.
  • If the expected string does not arrive for too long, the operator is alerted by e-mail or SMS.
  • The relay output can be used to restart the machine, or to turn on a warning light.

Connecting to the SensDesk.com online portal
  • IP WatchDog2 Industrial can be connected to the SensDesk.com online portal.
  • Monitored device states, history and graphs can be viewed from anywhere over the web or in a mobile app.

Text message (SMS) alerts
Sending SMS over the LAN through a central SMS-GW
Text message alerts to outages of a monitored device can be sent from IP WatchDog2 Industrial using a central SMS-GW.
In the web interface of IP WatchDog2, configure the recipient´s phone number and the IP address of your central “HWg-SMS-GW” gateway.
No software is necessary, only a working LAN connection is needed.

External GSM modem
IP Watchdog2 Industrial features a RS-232 interface, which can be used to connect a machine (in order to monitor its function) or an external GSM modem.
When the "SMS + Ring When Alarm" function is checked, the SMS alarm recipient´s number is dialed to let it ring for a few seconds in order to alert to the alarm.

With the HWg-Trigger application for Windows
The HWg-Trigger application can be started on any MS Windows PC. This application, based on “IF – THEN“ rules, checks for device alarms, including outages. Alarm status can be notified e.g. by sending a SMS to a specified number.
